With Saturday’s top 10 clash between No. 9 Seward and No. 3 Hutchinson looming, it might have been possible for the Lady Saints to look past Colby Wednesday.
Unfortunately for the Lady Trojans, they had Seward’s undivided attention.
The Lady Saints cruised to a 43-15 halftime lead and coasted to an 84-36 win at Colby.
And they did it without a single three pointer.
The Lady Saints only attempted four in the game and missed them all, but none were needed.
The Lady Saints continued to use a strong inside game as well as opening up lanes for lay-ups.
The Lady Saints also capitalized on 32 Colby turnovers.
Colby also gave the Lady Saints 34 free throw chances, 30 in the second half, and the Lady Saints made 24 of them.
Seward shot 53 percent in the first half, but cooled to 31 percent in the second.
But the Lady Saints were able to get second chances with 24 offensive rebounds. The Lady Saints out-rebounded the Lady Trojans 56-35.
All nine Lady Saints scored in the win.
Defensively, Seward did not allow a double digit scorer.
Payton Fleming came off the bench to lead the Lady Saints with 16 points in just 19 minutes.
Shanise Brooks had a double double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Korina Chapman scored 13, Fabiana Monte had 12, and Alana Simon added 11.
The win moved No. 9 Seward to 17-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Jayhawk West.
First place in the early portion of the Jayhawk West schedule will be on the line Saturday when the Lady Blue Dragons come to the Greenhouse.
Hutchinson remained perfect on the season Wednesday with a 77-43 win over Garden City.
Hutchinson is the defending Jayhawk West and Region 6 champions.
