HOOKER — Shania Miller scored 16 and Kyra Cathcart 13 to lead the 15th-ranked Class 2A Hooker Lady Bulldogs to a 58-32 win over the 18th-ranked 5A Guymon Lady Tigers on Tuesday night in The Dog House. Hooker simply shot light’s-out, while Guymon struggled from the field and with fouls.

Three players scored in double figures for Hooker (9-1 overall) with Mariana Cervantes adding 10. Not only that, but four different players drained 3-pointers as Miller (three), Naomi Rodriguez (two), Jessica Ugarte (two) and Vanessa Wiebe (one) all hit from downtown.

No letdown for these girls after the long holiday break.

“I was kind of worried, you just never know,” said Hooker head coach Ray Kennedy. “We shot the ball really well. We had four girls with 3-pointers.”

Hooker shot 74 percent from the free throw line (20-for-27), while Guymon was just 1-for-4 from the charity stripe. Guymon’s Yajaira Rodriguez fouled out early in the third quarter and most of Guymon’s players were in foul trouble the entire second half.

The game was tied just once — 5-5 in the first quarter after a Denesse Longoria trey. Longoria led Guymon with 13 points, including three from downtown. Hooker pulled out to a 14-10 lead at the end of the first and led 32-18 at the half.

Guymon (4-3 overall) was still within striking distance at 43-27 entering the final frame, but was outscored 15-5 down the stretch.

Olivia Armstrong added 8 and Sydney Hein 4 for Guymon, who open play at the Wheat Capital Tournament at Chisholm High School in North Enid on Thursday. Hooker will travel to the Arapaho Tournament.
