TYRONE, Okla.—It was two long stretches of tough defense that were key for the Beaver Lady Dusters to come away with a 45-35 win over the Tyrone Lady Bobcats Tuesday night.

“We knew Beaver was going to pressure us, and the turnovers beat us,” Lady Bobcats coach Clay Witt said. “I liked how we made Beaver work when we got it into a half-court game. This game will make us a better team that winning against someone that doesn't make us work.”

Tyrone's Tori Dumler hit a three with 6:42 left in the second quarter that game the Lady Bobcats a 10-9 lead. But that was the final basket of the half for Tyrone, and Beaver overcame a seven-minute scoring drought to finally reclaim the lead when Kaitlin Kemp scored with 3:34 left in the half.

Beaver then went on a 9-0 run to end the half up, 18-10.

Tyrone started the second half well, and cut the Lady Dusters' lead back to just five (22-17) with 3:07 left in the third.

But Beaver answered with a 10-2 stretch over the next five minutes to take a commanding 32-17 lead with six minutes left.

Tyrone's Avondra Aviles hit her second three with 1:50 left to cut the Lady Dusters lead to nine (40-31), but that was as close as they would get.

“This is the first time our kids have played it Tyrone,” Lady Dusters coach Casey Jones said. It's small compared to what we usually play in so I think there is an adjustment. But I also think with the kind of pressure we like to put on teams a smaller gym helps us. We got a little advantage and maintained through the end of the game.”

Beaver's Jacinda Balderrama led all scorers with 15 points; Kaitlin Kemp added 14, and Madison Cates scored 10.

Tyrone was led in scoring by Alondra Aviles with 12 on 5 of 8 shooting; Tori Dumler hit three 3-pointers and scored 11, and Rayna Wall added 10.

Beaver will travel to Woodward Thursday at 12:30 where they will face off against a familiar foe in the first round of the Oil Center Classic, Forgan.

Tyrone travels to the Fargo Tournament Thursday where they will face Freedom at 2 p.m.
