Thursday’s special city commission meeting called for a public hearing and a first and final reading for both ordinances No. 4418 and No. 4419 regarding Village Plaza and Edwards Street.
Housing and community development director Karen LaFreniere then recapped the previous resolutions with the ordinance No. 4418. The first resolution for RHID Village Plaza was to adopt a plan to establish an RHID. The next resolution approved, she said, was to look at the development plan that the developer had submitted, she said.
Previously, city engineer Pete Earles said, “a total of 64 units in all would be built.”
However, according to LaFreniere, “There have been some changes to the development plan at Village Plaza.”
The original plan for the apartments being 64 units has now changed to 48 units at this time with possible Phase 2 for more apartment units, she explained.
According to LaFreniere, this was the final ordinance to be heard but there will be a 30-day waiting period for the school, the county or college to voice any objections to it. After 30 days, the ordinance will take effect, she said.
LaFreniere then noted that there havn’t been any changes done to the development plan submitted with Edwards Street with the last resolution that was passed. She also said this ordinance will be in effect if there aren’t any objections within 30 days by any taxing entities.
The commission agreed to approve both ordinances 3-0, with one abstention from commissioner Ron Warren. Vice mayor Janet Willimon was absent.
