PLAINS – Alvin William Packard, 100, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born May 29, 1913, to William and Neida (Hardy) Packard in Macksville.
He attended the Macksville school system.
He married Iona F. Purett Nov. 25, 1932, in Coldwater.
He began working for the Magneto and Electric Shop in June 1944. On Jan. 1, 1946, he began working at the Holmes Motor Company until 1967, when he and Iona founded Packard Engine Service.
He was a member of the Plains Christian Church, Lions Club for 66 years, and the Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Garrel Packard and wife, Lois, Plains; and four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terry Faye Cole; four brothers; and a sister.
• Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Plains Christian Church.
Burial will follow at the Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, to sign the guest register. The casket will remain closed.
