ULYSSES – Loren Lee Baker, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born March 23, 1935, to Loren Clinton and Eileen Myrtle (Troika) Baker in Ulysses.
He married Alice V. Mounts Jan. 12, 1955, in New Harmony, Ind. She survives.
He attended school in Griffin, Ind., and graduated in New Harmony.
He served in the United States Army was honorably discharged. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Michigan from 1957 – 1962; for B&W in Indiana from 1962-1969. He worked at Ansel Manufacturing, Tom Gregg, Sunflower Lumber, and for 20 years at Grant County Road and Bridge.
He was a member of the Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79.
He was a carpenter, and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his grandkids.
He is also survived by his son, Brian Baker and wife, Heather, Ulysses; daughter, Teresa Brown, Chanute; seven grandchildren, Bryce Baker, Doug Smith, Cody Marris, LeeAnn Smith O’Brien, Trent Baker, Julian Baker, Alison Baker; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allen Baker; sister, Marilyn Daniels; and brother, Michael Baker.
• Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses, with the Re.Sam Bynum presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, with military graveside rites conducted by the Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79.
