PLAINS – Valerie Yvette Portillo, 16, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in rural Meade County as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born Nov. 9, 1997, to Juan Carlos Portillo and Patricia Delatorre at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Van Nuys, Calif.
She was currently a sophomore at Southwestern Heights High School.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.
She enjoyed playing sports and was a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams at Southwestern Heights.
She is survived by maternal grandparents, Doroteo and Maria De La Torre of Plains; two brothers, Ramon and Saul Hernandez, Plains; two sisters, Natalie Portillo, Plains, and Jackie C. De La Torre, Plains; and two uncles, Hector Gabriel De La Torre, Plains, and Francisco De La Torre, Plains.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
• Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Liberal.
Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Liberal.
Burial will follow services at the Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
