Just in time for the holiday season, Payless ShoeSource once again launched its annual international children’s shoe-donation program, Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids, and the company was joined by its selected charity partners, including Kansas Children’s Service League Head Start and Early Head Start.

The program – which reaches all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries – will give more than $1.5 million of free shoes to children of families in need this holiday season.

A group of children served by Head Start and Early Head Start participated in a shoe-shopping trip Saturday at the Payless ShoeSource store in Liberal.

According to a press release from KCSL, 100 kids and their families served by Head Start and Early Head Start took part in the Liberal event.

In 2008, Payless ShoeSource launched the Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program in the United States giving away $1 million worth of free shoes.

In 2009, Payless extended the program beyond the U.S. to reach families in need in Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries.

Now in its sixth year, the program is going strong.

“Payless ShoeSource continues to partner with local non-profits to help them identify children of needy families and provides more than $1.5 million in shoes,” the KCSL press release said.
