The Hooker Lady Bulldogs did it first with defense, then with offense in a 60-33 romp of the Stratford, Tex. Lady Elks Friday night in Hooker.

After a tightly played first quarter that had the Lady Bulldogs up just one (16-15), Hooker shutout the Lady Elks 10-0 in the second to go up 26-15 at the break.

"The second quarter was key for us," Lady Bulldogs coach Ray Kennedy said. "It was just intensity on defense, and blocking out. We didn't change anything about our defense at the end of the first quarter we just did it better."

Hooker struggled in the first half to force Stratford to guard them on the perimeter.

"We had a little trouble shooting from the outside in the first half," Kennedy said. "We started shooting better from outside in the third quarter."

Hooker picked up at the offensive end in the third quarter where the defense had left off in the second. Hooker outscored Stratford 23-14 in the third to push the Lady Bulldog lead to 20 (49-29).

Hooker held Stratford to just four points in the fourth, strangling any hopes of a miracle comeback to win the game by 27.

Kyra Cathcart led all scorers with 24 points. Mariana Cervantes added 13, and Naomi Rodriguez scored 11.
