On a night where both teams were ‘offensively challenged’ it came down to the fourth quarter to decide the winner. Forgan came out on top by making 4 of only 5 field goals attempted in the fourth quarter, and outscored the Beaver Lady Dusters 11-4 on their way to a 38-31 win.

“We played pretty sporadic, but we figured out what we needed to do to get the win,” Lady Bulldogs coach Brent Trippet said. “In the fourth quarter we finally started to stay in front of them and keep them from driving, and force them to take outside shots.”

Beaver was just 8 of 34 from the field, and only 1 of 15 in the fourth quarter. Forgan was not much better, making 13 of 37.

Jacinda Balderrama led the Lady Dusters with 15, but was shut out in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bulldogs sunk back into the lane to not allow her drives to the basket.

And the free throw line was not any better. Beaver was just 9 of 26; Forgan was 9 of 17.

Beaver took the early lead, 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, and still led by one at the half (19-18).

Nikki Taylor kept Forgan in the game, scoring all eight of the Lady Bulldogs first quarter points. Taylor finished the game with 14.

Forgan outscored Beaver 9-8 in the third to lock the two teams at 27 heading into the fourth quarter that was dominated by the Lady Bulldogs.

“This team has been a pleasant surprise, because they have worked so hard,” Trippet said. “It’s been fun to coach them so far because they are playing hard. If you can get your team to play hard you’ll get better and better as the season goes on.”

Forgan (1-1) will take on Laverne in the first round of the Laverne Tournament at 4:15 Wednesday. Trippet will be facing off against his daughter who coaches the Lady Tigers.

Beaver (1-3) will host Gruver, Texas Tuesday night.
