The Turpin Cardinals finished their regular season with dominating defense and a, 49-32, win over the Elkhart. Wildcats.
“I was very happy with our defense and rebounding,” said Cardinals coach Gary Wallace. “Our press bothered them early in the first half when we ran it.”
Turpin’s press started off on a tear, holding Elkhart to only three first quarter points. Konner Hood dropped in two threes to help the Cardinals take a ten-point lead.
The Wildcats were able to get their offense going in the second period, but Turpin still extended their lead to twelve, leading 30-18 at the half.
The Cardinals defense went into shutdown mode again in the third, allowing Elkhart only five as the Cardinals pushed the lead to 20, at 43-23 heading into the fourth.
“Offensively, we had good looks at the basket all game long, but we missed a lot of shots we normally make,” said Wallace. “Our quickness gave them trouble all game long and hopefully we continue playing well throughout the playoffs.”
Konner Hood led the Cardinals with 13 points, eleven coming in the first half. Keifer Hood added 9 points, and Aaron Kuns 8.
Elkhart had eleven players who scored, but none with more than five.
Turpin finishes the regular season 17-5, and will play Saturday at 8 p.m. in the district finals at Mooreland versus the winner of Laverne/Mooreland.
