MONTEZUMA – Opal J. Dirks, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma, where she was a resident.
She was born Feb. 9, 1930, to Walter and Della (Unruh) Schmidt in Montezuma.
She married Russell Dirks March 11, 1951, in Montezuma. He survives.
She was a homemaker. She worked at Bethel Home Inc. for 25 years in the housekeeping department.
She was a member of Church of God in Christ in Montezuma.
Other survivors include one son, Daniel Dirks and wife, Sandra, Montezuma; one daughter, Rebecca Redger and husband, Steven, Yuma, Ariz.; two brothers, Dale Schmidt and wife, Nadine, Montezuma, and Robert Schmidt, Montezuma; one sister, Regean Schmidt and husband, Milton, DeRidder, La.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Schmidt; and two sisters, Margaret Heibert and Marjorie Schmidt.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Homeland Mennonite Church in Montezuma with ministers Lyndon Toews, Donald Koehn and Raymond Ensz presiding.
Burial will be at the Homeland Mennonite Cemetery in Montezuma.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home.
