ULYSSES – Ruby W. Higgins, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at her home in Ulysses. She was born Sept. 24, 1931, the daughter of Reuben and Violet (Innes) More, in Deloraine, Manitoba, Canada. She married Ernest W. Higgins on Sept. 4, 1954 in Clayton, N.M. She grew up in Canada where she graduated high school and earned a bachelors of science degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in Johnson at the Stanton County Hospital, and the Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses. After her nursing career, she was a devoted homemaker, and her family was everything to her. She was also an active member of the Church of Christ in Ulysses. She played the violin and was involved in area orchestras. She is survived by one son, David Higgins and wife, Tammy, Irving, Texas; two daughters, Chloe Teeter, Ulysses, Leilani Sullivan and husband, Keric, Ulysses; sister, Sheila Koury, Las Animas, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ernest on July 27, 2002. • Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Ulysses with Minister Warren Baldwin presiding. Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
