Coming off of an emotional win against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Friday night, the Lady Saints faced Murray State Saturday night, and came away with a convincing 71-54 win.

Seward got off to a slow start, taking nearly five minutes to score their first points of the game. Once they got rolling, they managed to take their first lead of the game at 12-10, with 12:44 remaining in the first half.

The Lady Saints maintained the lead until a cold spell erased it, and Murray State clawed back to take a 21-17 advantage with under 6:30 to play in the half.

Seward took control after that, outscoring the Lady Aggies 18-7 to close the half, and take a 35-28 lead into the break.

Murray State closed the gap to within two early in the second half. A pair of Payton Fleming three’s gave the Lady Saints their biggest lead of the game at 44-36 with 13:44 to go.

Seward slowly began to push away from Murray State, extending their lead to double digits at the 10 minute mark, and then going up 64-50 with 4:35 remaining.

Even with the comfortable lead, the Lady Saints continued to play strong, taking a pair of charges on consecutive Murray State possessions to put the game away.

Seward went on to close things out 71-54 to pick up their second win of the young season.

Brianna Scott led the Lady Saints with 17 points while also pulling down seven rebounds. Fellow freshman Kyndal Davis had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Korina Chapman pitched in 11, and Fleming added 10.

Shanise Brooks just missed getting into double figures for the second straight game, finishing with nine points. Brooks led the Lady Saints on the inside with 11 rebounds as well as four blocked shots.

The 19th ranked Lady Saints improve to 2-0, and will have a nine day layoff before taking the court again on Nov. 11th against Oklahoma Baptist.
