KISMET—It’s not often a team falls behind 20-0 in the first three-and-a-half minutes of a game, but when they do, the end result is not usually in their favor.

Such was the case in Kismet Thursday night, as Lakin jumped out to a 20-0 lead with eight-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first quarter, and cruised the rest of the way to a 48-7 win over Southwestern Heights.

Lakin found the endzone on the opening drive of the game for a 7-0 advantage. After forcing a three-and-out, the Broncs went 30 yards for a touchdown in three plays on their second drive for a 14-0 lead.

The Mustangs fumbled the football on the ensuing kickoff return, and Lakin recovered.

Two plays later, the Broncs were up 20-0 after another quick touchdown.

Heights was able to find some offense on the next drive, and got on the board when freshman quarterback Payton LaPoint found Brandon Kisner for a 63-yard touchdown pass that got the home-town crowd on it’s feet.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, that one play was the majority of their offense for the entire game.

The Lakin defense stymied the Heights offensive attack, and only allowed 85 yards of total offense in the game. The Mustangs converted only five first downs on the night.

Running back Efrain Chavez was stuffed at the line all night, gaining a total of 17 yards on the ground on 16 carries.

Kisner finished the game 3-of-12 passing for 73 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Heights finishes the year with a record of 3-6, while going 3-4 in Hi-Plains district play.
