ELKHART – Helen Joyce Griggs, 79, died Sept. 10, 2013.
She was born Oct. 26, 1933, daughter of the late William Curtis Whitecotton and Reba Elizabeth (Garrett) Whitecotton, in Amarillo, Texas.
She lived in Amarillo the first 23 years of her life; then moved to Elkhart in October 1956 to work with her father and mother when they purchased the Elkhart Telephone Company.  Several years later, after completing Seward County Community College classes at Liberal and working as a counselor in Liberal, she moved to Wichita to work as a counselor and therapist at a counseling and cognitive therapy center for 20 years.  In April 2000, she moved to Malabar, Fla. to work as a personal care taker for a friend with Alzheimer’s disease.  In 2012, when her friend passed away, She started being a joyful door greeter at a Florida Wal-Mart location until the summer of 2013.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxanna Dian Grimes, and husband, Dr. Guy Grimes,  Newport Beach, Calif., and her children, Gabrielle Grimes and Greyson Grimes, Costa Mesa, Calif.; one brother, Charles Curtis Whitecotton, and wife, Kay Diane Whitecotton, Whitesboro, Texas; one sister, Dian Boaldin and husband, Bob Boaldin, Elkhart; six nephews and nieces; 11 great-nephews and nieces; and one great-great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a nephew, Travis Allen Boaldin; and a great-niece, Hillari Riad Boaldin.
• Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Morton County Civic Center in Elkhart.
Burial will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery. 
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the American Diabetes Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS  67950.
