After a strong start to the season that including a nine-match winning streak, the Lady Redskins hit a rough stretch, and after recovering at the Western Athletic Conference tournament for a second-place finish, Liberal could not advance to the state tournament after a loss in the Sub-State championship Saturday in The Big House.

The Lady Redskins had to face to WAC opponents Saturday to earn a trip to the state tournament, and they were able to earn a victory in the first match.

Liberal entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and faced No. 5 Hays.

The Lady Redskins fell behind early and had to battle back in the first set to knock off the Lady Indians 25-18.

Liberal struggled to start the second set, and a back-and-forth battle continued the rest of the set.

The Lady Redskins were able to score the final three points to earn a 25-23 win and advance to the Sub-State championship.

Great Bend knocked of Ark City in their opener, and it wasn’t close. The Lady Panthers defeated Ark City 25-10, 25-9.

In the championship, Great Bend used a strong cross-court kill that created difficulty for the Liberal defense.

The Lady Redskins also struggled with service errors.

Great Bend cruised to a 25-16 win in the opener.

The Lady Redskins appeared to be poised to force a Game 3 by having a strong start to the second set, but service errors killed Liberal rallies, and the Lady Panthers continued to pound cross-court kills that the Lady Redskins could not defend.

The set stayed close until the Lady Panthers pulled away late, 25-20 for the Sub-State Region 2 championship.

The Lady Redskins ended the season at 22-17 and a second place finish in WAC and Sub-State.
