A local Facebook post requesting to purchase or adopt a baby resulted in a backlash from other posters over the weekend.

The post was made on the “Beg, Barter, Buy and Sell in Liberal, Ks.” Facebook page.

The post was placed under the name of Cecilia Duran.

The post read, “So I heard some people give their babies up for adoption or sell them to other people, I’m interested so get in contact with me I’m not even kidding inbox if your serious.”

When other posters began to question the legality of the post, comments under Duran’s posting said that they needed to “calm down” and that if the post affected people negatively, she would delete it.

But the conversation that ensued inferred that selling babies was a regular occurrence locally, especially among those that may not be in the country legally, both as those who give up their babies and adopted by those who are not legal.

According to another post under Duran’s heading, she made the post “for my neighbor because she has no documents to be here, and she can never have kids so she will never have the possibility to have her own, she can’t adopt, I’ve seen babies being thrown in the trash and found dead I think I would rather buy a kid or have it left (at) my door then to find out they were thrown away(.) I didn’t mean for all of you to get (expletive) hurt but I’ll delete it if it hurts y’all so much. I will have my own kids when the time is right or maybe adopt but right now I don’t need children(.) I’m too young sorry(.)”

Another post under Duran’s name stated that there are people giving their babies away “all the time” at a large local business.

Other posts asked to take screen shots to preserve the information and to provide it to the Liberal Police Department for investigation.

The post has been removed.
