L&T staff report
The Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs took part in a quad at Stanton County yesterday, won all three matches, and walked out with a league title.
The Lady Mustangs beat Stanton County 25-15, 25-9, Lakin 17-25, 25-23, 27-25 and Sublette 25-14, 25-15.
The win over Lakin earned Heights the Hi-Plains League season title and the number one seed in the league tournament.
“That was the most inspired volleyball we’ve played all season,” Mustangs coach Julie Tucker said. “After losing the first set pretty badly, we reallied back to take sets two and three.
“It took a lot of heart and determination” Tucker said. “Things we’ve been lacking off and on throughout the season. It was so encouraging to see the girls fight for the win.”
Heights is now 17-12 overall, and 8-1 in Hi-Plains League play.
The league tournament will be held at Southwestern Heights Saturday. The time has yet to be determined.
