Lady Saints dominate Barton

The Lady Saints may not get all of the bad taste from Hutchinson out of their mouths in one game, but Wednesday’s drubbing of Barton County might be the first Tic Tac.

After a tough road game with the Lady Blue Dragons Monday, Seward returned home and handed the Lady Cougars an 87-64 loss.

After a 7-7 start to the game, there was little doubt of the outcome the rest of the night.

The Lady Saints went on a 20-2 run after an early time out by Seward coach Toby Wynn to take a 27-9 lead.

The Lady Saints kept the pressure eon the rest of the half and took a 39-23 lead to the break.

Another patented Lady Saints run in the second half ballooned the lead to 33 when Vaneza Junior connected on a three-pointer to give the Lady Saints a 75-41 lead.

Three times in the second half Wynn cleared his bench to keep fresh legs on the court and pressure the Lady Cougars.

And the constant pressure wreaked havoc, forcing 29 Lady Cougar turnovers.

“I was anxious to see how we would respond,” Wynn said. “We had good energy. We played a good game tonight.”

In looking back at the Hutch game, Wynn said the Arena is a true home court advantage.

“It’s a tough place to shoot,” he said. “Unless you practice there every day, you’re not used to shooting in a n open arena. This was a more comfortable setting for us.”

Junior turned in a strong night, scoring 27 points to lead all scorers. Rachel Barnes had 21, Nadia Rosario scored 19, and Kendra Spresser had 14.

“Tameka (Sanchez) played well for us,” Wynn said. “There was a couple of times she was guarding Hannah. I twas probably the only time that has happened since they were teammates last year (at Liberal High School). It was good to seem them both play well tonight.

Seward hosts Pratt Saturday.
