Jett Little and the Meade Buffaloes put on a show in front of their home town crowd Friday night, as the Buffaloes crushed the Stanton County Trojans, 60-6 in Meade’s homecoming game.
The Buffaloes offense scored early and often in the first half. On the opening drive of the game, Meade took the ball 51 yards in six plays for a touchdown when Little found Morgan Davis on a 20-yard pass.
Less than three minutes later, Morgan Olvera ran the ball in from 33 yards out for the second Buffalo touchdown to give Meade a 14-0 lead.
Olvera finished the night with 72 yards rushing on eight carries and a touchdown.
Following another three-and-out for the Buffalo defense, Little scored on a 43-yard run to extend the lead to 21-0.
Little ran the ball in again from 10 yards out for a 28-0 Buffalo lead at the end of the first quarter.
Meade’s defense suffocated the Trojan offense, stuffing the run game at the line. Stanton County was held to a total of 23 yards and one first down in the first quarter.
“We firmly believe that defense equals wins,” Meade coach Scott Moshier said. “There are some things that we still need to work on.”
The second quarter started much like the first ended. Meade stopped the Stanton County offense, then promptly marched the ball 59 yards down the field, and scored on a four-yard touchdown run by Little.
Nick Finke came up big on the next defensive stand for the Buffaloes, picking-off a Trojan pass to give Meade the ball back.
Ben Thompson then ran the ball in from five yards out to make it 41-0 heading into the half.
The Buffaloes turned to a passing-oriented attack at the beginning of the second half. Little hit Dalton Wiens on an 18-yard pass for a touchdown, then connected with Morgan Davis on a 24-yard touchdown pass to give Meade a 54-0 lead.
“We’re working hard on being more balanced with the single wing and direct snap,” Moshier said. “We like being more spread out and diverse.”
With an insurmountable lead, the Buffaloes pulled their starters and let the bench get some action.
Returning to the ground game, Thompson racked up 38 yards on the ground, and Miguel Rogers added 59 yards of his own on four carries.
Finke added a touchdown on a four-yard run late in the game. He ended the game with four rushes for 28 yards.
“We’re really blessed with some of our depth,” Moshier said.
The Trojans managed to get on the board with 16 seconds left in the game for the final score, 60-6.
Morgan Davis led the air attack for Meade, catching three passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Little carried the ball seven times for 131 yards and three touchdowns, while connecting of 5-of-7 passes for 97 yards and three more touchdowns, giving him six on the night.
Little has 13 touchdowns over the last two games.
“We’d like to eventually lessen the load on him,” Moshier said.
Wyatt Kroth and Tate Schloctermeier both had sacks in the game for the Buffaloes.
Meade travels to Syracuse Friday looking for a fifth consecutive win.
