A Turpin, Okla., woman arrested in May for one charge of embezzlement is facing a second preliminary hearing, and she could be charged in Kansas as well as Oklahoma in the case.

Kaylee Dawn Yonkers, 30, who has worked as a secretary for several years for Beaver County’s Rural Water District No. 1, was arrested May 28 on one charge of embezzlement in Oklahoma.

Beaver County Undersheriff Scott Hedrick said Yonkers could be charged in Kansas as well because of use of the water district’s credit card in that state.

The alleged crime was brought to the attention of the Beaver County Sheriff’s office after the water board there noticed that a lot of money was missing from the district’s fund.

Hedrick said after the investigation began, Yonkers turned herself in, and after being arrested, she was later released when she bonded out on a $10,000 surety bond.

Yonkers had a preliminary hearing on Sept. 13 and faces a second a preliminary hearing on Oct. 30. Hedrick said the district attorney in the case is trying to decide where the case should be filed due to the alleged crime taking place in multiple states.

Yonkers is being represented by attorney Craig Yarborough of Woodward, Okla.
