Late in the second quarter the Tyrone Bobcats had their opportunity. Trailing 14-0, Tyrone had marched deep into Trojan territory, but a missed opportunity turned into a third Sharon Mutual touchdown with just 12 seconds left before half to make the score 22-0 on their way to a 46-6 victory.
“We had opportunities,” Bobcats coach Josh Bell said. “Obviously we are young and going to make mistakes. Not making the big play hurt us. Played pretty good the first half. If we could have been more sound we could have made a game out of it.”
Sharon Mutual added another score in the third to lead 30-0 heading into the fourth. Ryon Reese scored on a 30-yard run in the fourth for the Bobcats only score.
Tyrone was out gained 505 (461 on the ground) to 153, and managed just eight first downs to Sharon-Mutual’s 17. The Trojans did what they could to help Tyrone, fumbling five times and losing three.
Tyrone (1-2, 0-1) will try to regroup with a week off before heading to Shattuck for another important district matchup.
“We learned a lot tonight,” Bell said. “We learned about our kids. We are learning what we can do and what might not work for us. We played hard, and we are healthy.”
