For the second year in a row, the Meade Buffaloes opened their season with a one-point loss to the Holcomb Longhorns following Friday night’s 21-20 losss.

Meade, the defending 2A state champs, ran the ball 45 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Holcomb meanwhile relied on it’s passing game, gaining 172 yards through the air.

Running back Jett Little put Meade up 6-0 in the first quarter on a three-yard run.

The Longhorns answered back in the second quarter, scoring on eight-yard pass, and later on a one-yard run for a 14-6 lead.

The Buffaloes got on the board again just before halftime, as Morgan Olvera ran it in from two yards out. After a successful two-point conversion, it was tied at 14-14 heading to the half.

The third quarter was locked in a defensive stalemate until Holcomb ran it in from a yard out with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter.

The Longhorns took 21-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

With just under five minutes left in the game, Little hit Morgan Davis on a 14-yard pass to get the Buffaloes within one at 21-20.

Meade could not convert the PAT however, and would not get on the board again, falling just short, 21-20.

Little completed 6-of-12 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Little added on 112 yards rushing on 25 attempts.

Olvera had 15 rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Davis was the leading receiver on the night for the Buffaloes, catching five passes for 59 yards receiving and a touchdown. Davis however, would miss his one extra-point attempt.

Meade controlled the time of possession, holding on to the ball for over 28 minutes.

The Buffaloes will visit Lakin next week to battle the Broncs in an attempt to get their first win of the year.
