Since 1915, area residents have celebrated Labor Day weekend by attending the Little World’s Fair in Kismet.
With the exception of four years during World War II, the event has been continuous. Saturday, the 94th Little World’s Fair will kick off a three-day celebration of life in small-town America.
Some events have become annual traditions, including the parade and free ham and bean feed along with the turtle race. Other events have been added over the years including a street dance, toy tractor pulls and other games and contests.
Kismet has a population of 459, but that number swells to several thousand over the Labor Day weekend.
From motorcycle poker runs to kids soccer tournaments, sand volleyball events and more, the small community and its volunteers will be busy providing entertainment all weekend long.
For several years, the Kismet Lion’s Club has been host to the annual event and club volunteers will be helping at a variety of events throughout the weekend.
The theme for this year’s event is “Go Green in ’13.”
