The fourth night of racing at the Five-State Fair started off with a 5-year-old Akrin Gurule drag racing his 4-wheeler in front of the grandstands. Gurule made the first pass tearing up the infield carrying the checkered flag.

After his first pass, others drag raced side-by-side, throwing up large rooster tails of dust and dirt race after race until most were eliminated one by one until who the promoter, Glen Thompson, thought was going to be the fair’s ATV champion of the night.

Then out came this paddled tired, decked out 4-wheeler that took everyone out. After all the dust had settled, little 5-year-old Gurule called out the decked out 4-wheeler for the last race.

Once lined up, the green flag dropped and Gurule gave it his all. The tired 4-wheeler also jumped at the start and then stalled out and never came back to full power.

Gurule crossed the finished line and became the 2013 ATV Drag Racing Five-State Fair Champion.

After the drag racing was over and throughout the night, he raced with the big boys around the track and the flagman and family members made numerous attempts to get him to stop racing.

When promoter Thompson handed Akrin his plaque for being this year’s champion, he said “Watch out, this could be your next big name in racing.”
