Earl L. Burns, 73, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. 
Earl was born Dec. 18, 1939, to Robert Lee and Mabel Hinderliter Burns in Larned.
He married Jo Ann Kemper on Aug. 27, 1961 in Ocean Beach, Calif. She survives.
He graduated in 1959 from Kinsley High School. 
After graduation, he joined the Navy. During his tenure in the Navy, he traveled to many different countries and  was stationed in Hawaii and Florida. He then returned to San Diego, where he was stationed at NTC, where he trained new recruits as a Company Commander Chief Petty Officer until he retired in January 1980.  
He worked for Halliburton in Tyrone, Okla. for 6 years, then Air Product Helium in Liberal for 20 years.  He retired for a short time, then later returned to work part time for Trimac, where he worked until his death.
He enjoyed his family immensely, loved traveling, gardening, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Texas Rangers.
Survivors also include two sons, Paul Burns, Liberal, Robert Burns and wife, Mary Jo, Yukon, Okla.; daughter, Sherry Goldstein and husband, Rick, Denton, Texas; two brothers, Claude Burns and wife, Barbara, Ray Burns and wife, Pam, all of Hooker, Okla.; two sisters,  Ruby McKinley, Longdale, Okla. and Barbara Harper of Colorado;  three grandsons, Shawn Vorhies, Denton, Trevor Burns and wife, April, Ponca City, Okla., and Ryan Burns and wife, Jennifer, Liberal; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Kaden Vorhies, and Jaythen, Jacob and Sofia Burns; step-grandchildren, Tasha and Nick Daughtery; his faithful dog companion, Chubby; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Ronnie Burns. 
• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tyrone Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Stone presiding. 
Burial will follow at the Hooker Cemetery. 
Memorials are suggested to the Tyrone Baptist Church in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
