The Liberal Bulldogs walked away from Thursday night’s double header at the Liberal Baseball Complex against the Hooker Horny Toads with a pair of victories.

The Bulldogs scored late in the opener to earn a 7-4 win. They finished the night with a 13-12 win that was called after five innings due to time restraints.

After a short rain delay in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1, the Bulldog bats were a little slow out of the gate, but business picked up for them late in the game to seal the win.

With a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs scored four runs to put the game out of reach.

Jacob Mettlen started the rally when he was able to score from third on a passed ball. Tim Fitzgerald followed with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Catcher Lorenzo Pando scorched a double to right that allowed Stevie Lira to score.

Brandyn Terrazas ended the big inning with an RBI single to left that brought in Pando.

The Horny Toads only scored two runs in the seventh, and the big sixth inning for the Bulldogs proved to be the difference maker for the Bulldogs in the 7-4 win.

The second game of the double header started with both teams scoring early and often.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first, Liberal answered with three runs of their own highlighted by first basemen Kaiden Long’s two-RBI single that scored Lira and Pando.

Long came through big again in the second, slapping a ball into the outfield that scored another two runs and gave the Bulldogs a 6-4 lead. Long would finish the game with five RBIs.

The Liberal pitchers did not have nearly as much success as the offense did. They coughed up the lead in the top of the third allowing three runs that gave Hooker a 7-6 lead.

The Bulldog bats didn’t cool off, and the offense answered in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs of their own to put the game away.

Long finished the night with a total of six RBIs and two runs scored between the two games.

Pando also finished the night with some eye-popping stats, scoring five times to go along with three RBIs.

The sweep completed a six-game homestand where the Bulldogs went 4-2.
