What has free snacks, prize giveaways, games, good music and a place to worship with the youth of the community all in one sitting? The answer: Saturday Night LYFE (SNL).

Saturday Night LYFE is an event put on by the youth groups of churches across Liberal. Joanne Metcalf of the Church for All Nations and Nigel Robinson of Trinity Faith are in charge of organizing SNL.

“Saturday Night LYFE is a combined youth event,” Metcalf described it. “Our youth pastors have come together to form an organization called LYFE, which is Liberal Youth Fully Empowered. The goal of the group is to, together, do more outreach to the youth of our community.”

The youth groups involved with this event include the Church for All Nations, Trinity Faith, First United Methodist Church and Standout from Liberal High School.

“One youth group will have its band playing, and another youth group is handling all of the games, another one is doing snacks, and Tim Tommater, who is the pastor at First United Methodist, is going to be sharing a message,” Metcalf said of the activities planned.

At the first SNL event, the Nova band from Church for All Nations will be playing.

SNL will be a monthly soiree throughout the summer. The set dates are for this coming Saturday, then July 20 and Aug. 17. However, the end of summer does not mark the end of LYFE events.

“We came up with these events, a precursor event to a major event we’re planning for next spring,” Metcalf added. “We will be bringing in the organization called Pure Rebellion.

“They are based in Colorado Springs, and it’s a major event with music and speakers and drama and skits and all sorts of things geared towards a message of purity.”

The first event is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Light Park. SNL and all of its activities are free.
