With appearances, practices, and preparations almost complete, Giovanna Baca, Miss Liberal 2013, will be representing citizens of Liberal and competing for the crown in the Miss Kansas Pageant in Pratt. 
Her platform is “Youth of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow,” with emphasis on giving back to her community. 
She has been a volunteer at the Coronado Museum and Dorothy’s House as a “Dorothy” since she was 12 years old. 
Giovanna and her director, Lu Haynes, attended the two-day spring workshop recently in Pratt, setting in place all the events for Miss Kansas Week. 
All of the contestant entry forms were completed and donations for the National Platform, “Children’s Miracle Network” were accepted. 
All contestants will report to the Pratt Community College on Sunday, June 2, to begin a very long and exciting week of appearances, rehearsals, luncheons and competition for the Miss Kansas Crown. 
Giovanna chose No. 10 as her spot in the order appearance, her private interview will be on Wednesday, June 5, and she will be performing her talent on Thursday night, June 6, the first night of preliminary competitions. 
Giovanna will be competing in swimwear and evening wear on Friday night, June 7, the second preliminary night. 
The Miss Kansas Parade will be on Saturday morning, June 8. Following the announcement of the Top 10 contestants Saturday evening, the final competitions will continue, and the new Miss Kansas 2013 will be crowned.
Miss Kansas 2013 will then compete in the Miss America Pageant in September, which will be returning to Atlantic City, N.J., where the Miss America Pageant began in 1920. 
Giovanna is a 2013 graduate from Seward County Community College with an Associate of Science in pre-medicine degree. She will be continuing her studies at Wichita State University and KU Med School with plans to become an OB/GYN physician.
