Special to the Leader & Times

Tuesday was a step in the right direction for the golf team. Garrett Poulton stepped up and gave Liberal a pretty score of 86.

“He helped us finish where we did,” Liberal coach Kody Thexton said. “Garrett earned his way back onto varsity and we are so glad he did.”

Blake Stout was the low man for the ’Skins with an 84, Michael Begley 88, Daniel Dowell 89, and Blake Brenneman and George Fitzgerald both carded 94.

“The guys were happy where we finished, but upset about their play,” Thexton said. “Many of them stated how they left a lot of shots on the course.”

Liberal placed fifth out of nine teams at the DC invite at Mariah Hills.  Dodge City won the tournament.

The next varsity tournament will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Ulysses.
