An accident at the intersection of Western Avenue and U.S. Highway 54 sent one individual to the hospital due to injuries. Liberal Police Captain Patrick McClurg said the accident was reported Wednesday morning and involved two vehicles. “We got called at about 9:30 in the morning for an injury accident at 54 and Western,” McClurg said. “A blue 2010 Kenworth semi-truck that was going westbound on 54 ran a red light and struck a 2001 silver Ford Taurus four-door that was going southbound on Western with a green light.” McClurg added the driver of the Taurus, a 76-year-old female, was transported to Southwest Medical Center as a result of her injuries. The driver of the Kenworth, a 41-year-old male, did not sustain injuries. Daily Leader photo/Jessica Crawford
