Whether it is a Major League player or a little leaguer, sometimes a pitcher just doesn’t have his best stuff.

Zane Gooding, a hard-throwing right handed pitcher for the Tigers experienced that Monday night at Rosel Field.

Gooding has been a solid contributor for the Tigers, but the Cardinals had his number Monday, taking advantage of walks and moving runners on stolen bases to score four runs in the first inning en route to a 12-2 win.

Gooding struggled with location early, and that allowed the Cardinals to be patient at the plate.

Saul Mendoza took the mound for the Cardinals and gave up one run in the first inning before shutting down the Tigers for the next two.

Syris Dunlap relieved Mendoza for the next two innings and gave up one run before the game was called by the run rule.

Mendoza helped his cause by having a perfect three-for-three effort at the plate including two triples.

Dunlap contributed with a two-for-two effort with two doubles.

Cal Ripken action continues at 7:30 p.m. tonight with a game between the first-place Royals and the 1-0 White Sox.
