MEADE – Bernie Burdge, 86, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade.
He was born May 26, 1926, to Harold and Lorene (Smithhisler) Burdge at Kansas City, Mo.
He married Donna Freeman April 23, 1952, in Danville. She survives.
He attended school in Danville. He joined the United States Army serving in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. He later began his career in the oilfield working in several capacities before retiring as a tool pusher.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Meade; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the American Legion.
He enjoyed collecting various items including antiques; fishing, hunting, camping and working on lawnmowers.
Other survivors include his children, Rick Burdge, Meade, Cindy Shrewsbury, Meade, and Becky Bertke, Euless, Texas; one sister, Rosemary Smithhisler, Clovis, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Terry Burdge.
• Memorial services were at 2 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary Chapel, Meade.
Cremation has taken place.
Private burial followed at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Memorials are suggested to the Friends of Meade State Lake or the American Legion in care of the funeral home.
