L&T staff report

Liberal opened the golf season Thursday with a second place finish at their home course.

“The first meet if the year went pretty good for the guys at Willow Tree today,” Liberal coach Kody Thexton said.

Meade won the meet with a 340. Liberal was six strokes behind with a 346.

Guymon took third with a 353.

Eight teams participated in the event.

Austin Jansonius was the overall winner with a 74. Blake Stout placed second with an 81, and Michael Begley placed third with a 82.

“We had a chance to win today, but we threw away too many shots,” Thexton said. “We can’t do this and expect to be competitive in the Western Athletic Conference.”

The next tournament will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Buffalo Dunes.
