Daily Leader staff report

The Liberal Redskins and Lady Redskins earned victories at the Ulysses C-Team tournament Monday.

The Lady Redskin freshmen team won 67-23 over Cimarron and will face Ulysses at 6 p.m. Thursday in the second round.

The winner will play the winner of the Garden City-Hugoton game. The loser will play for third place.

The Liberal boys won their opening round game against Cimarron 38-34.

“We played sloppy but we overcame some bad play to get the win,” Liberal coach Kody Thexton said. “Being down 10 at the beginning of the fourth, we started playing the way were supposed to and got the lead with 1:30 left. We made some free throws and held on for the win.”

The freshmen boys will play Holcomb at Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The winner will play the winner of the Ulysses-Guymon game for the tournament championship. The loser will play for third place.

The freshman are 4-2 on the season.
