Mary Alice Lewis, 71, died Monday, March 25, 2013, after a battle with pancreatic cancer at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born July 1, 1941, to Elvis Delbert Gibbons and Anita Laverne Barton in Pratt.
She attended Seward County Community College, receiving her associate’s degree. She futhered her education at Wichita State University, completing her bachelor’s degree in 1973. She earned her master’s degree in speech pathology, graduating summa cum laude in 1975.
She worked in the Liberal school system as a speech pathologist for more than 30 years before retiring. She continued with USD No. 480 as a consultant in the speech department until 2011.
She served in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Faith Tabernacle Church.
She enjoyed being active in the lives of her family.
She is survived by four children, Ronald Dean Mosburg and wife, Burleene, Coweta, Okla., Cynthia Lynn Smid, Wichita, Anita Kay Mosburg, Olathe, and Sandra Deanne Galey and husband, Michael, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Elvis D. Gibbons Jr. and wife, Linda, Liberal, and Ron Gibbons and wife, Gail, Norco, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Brandi Smid, Amber Hall, Ryann (Smid) McCain, Andrew Hall, Jordan Galey, Megan Galey, Madison Galey, Lauren Galey and Kaylin Galey; and one great-grandson, Zayden McCain.
• Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Graveside services will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested in Mary’s honor at Bank of America with all donations divided between the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the Liberal VFW.
