LAKIN – Beth Rider, 86, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
She was born May 17, 1926, to Earl and Edith (Wadsworth) Nelson in Topeka.
She married Merl F. Rider June 15, 1947, in Topeka. He died April 11, 2011.
She graduated from Topeka High School. She attended Washburn University where she met her husband.
The couple started farming in Southwest Kansas in 1950.
She taught Sunday School, 4-H sewing and tailoring classes, was a member of the United Methodist Church, Southwest Kearny H.U.D., served on the Selective Service Committee, and was a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Sorority.
She enjoyed spending time on the farm with her husband and their growing children. She designed and made her two daughters wedding gowns as well as their attendants’ dresses. She also enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing and dancing.
She is survived by her children, Kristina A. Bell and husband, Jim, Lakin, Margaret E. Simpson, Duncan, Okla., and Nelson F. Rider and wife, Joyce, Ulysses; sister, Kay Corn, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jane Beal; and grandson, Bryan Bell.
o Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Lakin, with the Rev. Tod Anthony presiding.
Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
