BEAVER, Okla.—On a windy but warm day, the Beaver Dusters and Turpin Cardinals opened their baseball seasons. Turpin swept the double-header 12-3, and 7-0 with both teams still feeling their way around the diamond.

Game 1 started well for the Beaver Dusters with Kalen Gabel on the mound. Gabel struck out 8 of 11 batters he faced. Gabel left the game after three scoreless innings with Dusters manager Garrett Bebermeyer trying to keep pitch counts low to start the season.

Beaver scored three in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

But that’s when the wheels fell off for Beaver. Turpin scored 6 in the fourth and 6 in the fifth without recording a hit as Beaver pitchers struggled to find the strike zone.

Meanwhile, Turpin’s Kyler Musgrave found his groove on the mound, pitching into the fifth, before Jordan Lujan finished off the win with three strikeouts.

Both teams struggled at the plate as well with 12 of Beaver’s 15 outs coming by strikeout, and 11 of Turpin’s 15 coming by strikeout.

Game 2 lasted just three innings. Both teams were scoreless in the first, but Turpin scored 3 in the second. Eric Rojas pinch hit for the Cardinals in the third and hit a bases clearing triple with two outs to put Turpin up 7-0.

Lujan, who had finished off Game 1, pitched all three innings of Game 2, striking out nine and giving up two hits, and no walks.

Turpin (2-0) travels to Buffalo Monday. Beaver (0-2) will travel to Hooker Monday.
