The Lady Saints found themselves in unfamiliar territory Saturday, traveling away from the Green House for a first round playoff game for the first time in more than 20 years.
But Seward accomplished something that was very familiar — a first round win — 73-60 in overtime.
The Lady Saints dropped their last three Jayhawk West games to end the regular season in fifth place and the No. 9 overall seed in the Region 6 tournament.
The Lady Saints were the only tam to defeat a higher seed in the women’s bracket, but it did not come easy.
Seward trailed most of the game before forcing a tie with 4:49 to play.
While the Lady Saints defense did its job down the stretch of preventing the Lady Red Devils from scoring, Seward did not score again in regulation, either.
Seward dominated the extra period, outscoring Allen County 15-2 to advance to the second round of the Region 6 tournament.
Madison McLain led the Lady Saints with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Shanise Brooks added 18. Ricquia Jones scored 13.
The win marked the 21st consecutive season that the Lady Saints have won 20 or more games.
