The Hooker Bulldogs saw their season come to an end Saturday night in the second round of the 2A Regional Tournament at Chisholm High School in Enid, Okla. Pioneer came out shooting hot, built a lead, and Hooker could not recover, losing 82-68.

“They really lit it up early,” Bulldogs coach Chad Hussey said. “It put us in a hole, and we didn’t have the legs we needed to defend the perimeter like we needed too. Some of that was the travel and the hard-fought overtime game the night before.”

Pioneer shot their way to a 23-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, and had tripled the Bulldogs output (30-10) with 5:43 left in the second quarter.

Hooker was able to cut into the lead some by half, but still trailed 43-29.

Hooker was able to get their offense going well in the second half, scoring 20 points in the third quarter, but could not stop the Pioneer offense, and therefore, could not make up any ground. Pioneer still led by 14 heading in to the fourth, 63-49.

Hooker got within 11 points (76-65) with 2:13 left, but could not get any closer.

“These guys have been great all year,” Hussey said. “They’ve given great effort, and I’m very proud of them. Unfortunately it had to come to an end, and 20 wins is nothing to scoff at. We’re excited about the now and about the future of our team.”

Hooker finishes the season with a record of 20-5.
