The Southwestern Heights Mustangs out-shot, out-rebounded, and got a confidence-boosting 71-56 road win over the Cimarron Bluejays Saturday night.
Heights (12-8) will feel confident that they are capable of winning their first round sub-state game, since traveling back to Cimarron for another matchup with the Bluejays is what they will be doing Tuesday.
Heights out-shot the Bluejays inside the arc (55 to 39 percent), outside the arc (41 to 27 percent), and at the free throw line (66 to 55 percent). The Mustangs dominated the boards with a 40-25 advantage.
Heights built a double-digit lead in the first half, and led 35-22 at the break. Cimarron cut into the lead by one in the third, but Heights outscored the Bluejays 17-14 in the fourth to win by 15.
Clayton Chase led the Mustangs with 20 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Chase also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out three assists.
Ben Johnsrud scored 17 points. Ben was 3 of 8 inside the arc, but 3 of 5 from beyond it. He also grabbed 7 rebounds and had five assists.
Nate Johnsrud scored 11, Rogelio Martinez added 8, and Trevor Lee grabbed nine rebounds.
