Marjorie Dettmer Stephenson, 91, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Cedars House in McPherson.

She was born July 28, 1921, to Nell (Harding) and George Henry Dettmer in rural Hayne.

She married Jewel Franklin Stephenson Feb. 16, 1941, in Liberal. He died March 6, 1983.

She attended the Hayne grade school and graduated from Liberal High School.

She was a homemaker and worked as a telephone operator in Hooker, Okla. She also owned and operated Mardie’s Drapery Den in Hooker and Enid. She worked in several dress shops and sold Merle Norman cosmetics in Liberal. She volunteered at the Save-N-Share in McPherson.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McPherson and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal, Hooker and Enid.

She enjoyed music and playing the piano, oil painting, flower gardening and decorating her home for each season.

Survivors include her son, Stanley L. Stephenson and wife, Manelia, McPherson; her sister, Jan Walden, Chickasha, Okla.; her two grandchildren, Jeri D Stephenson and husband, Michael, Spickelmier, Atchison, and Craig A. Stephenson and wife, Jana, Fort Wayne, Ind.; her four great-grandchildren, Isaac Papineau, Luke Papineau, Jewel Stephenson and Hope Stephenson; her four step-great-grandchildren, Blake Mathis, Chase Mathis, Jack Spickelmier and Nathan Spickelmier; her niece Gail Hufferd and husband, Doug, Stockton, Mo.; her nephew, Kyle, Barrington and wife, Dolly, Chickasha; and other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ivan Dettmer.

o Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson, and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to The Hope Stephenson Medical Fund or Hospice and Homecare of Reno/McPherson County and they can be sent in care of the Glidden- Ediger Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid Street, McPherson, KS 67460.
