MEADE – W. Leroy Lemaster, 82, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Meade District Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1927, to W.P. (Bill) and Zada DeWitt Lemaster in Seward County.
He married Irene Fletcher Oct. 4, 1947. She survivives.
In 1952, he went to work for the Meade School System.
He volunteered 38 years with the Meade County Fire Department. He was elected to the Meade City Council and served as mayor several terms. He was President of the Meade County Historical Society and spent many hours volunteering at the museum. In 1997, he was citizen of the year. He served on the economic development committee.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry, Meade, and Jim and wife, Kay, Woodward, Okla.; one brother, Dean, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Kimberly Neal, Elkhart, Jimmy Lemaster, Meade, Chad Lake and family, Fort Calhoun, Neb., Carey Welden and family, Caves Springs, Ark., and Richard Dragoo, Meade; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe and John, and one grandchild, Casey Lake.
o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Meade with the Rev. Susan Greene presiding.
Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery of Meade.
Friends may call until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade. The casket will be closed at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Friends of Meade State Lake or the library at Lone Tree Retirement Center.
