The Liberal Redskins went up against a “buzzsaw” Tuesday at Ayr Lanes according to coach Eric Steiner.

Liberal’s boys and girls varsity teams both lost to Great Bend, and the boys team simply could not keep pace with the Panthers.

Great Bend’s low bowler was a 192 in Game 1. Liberal’s Hunter Sandell was the only bowler to top Great Bend’s low with a 202.

Great Bend’s Eric Ruiz was two pins short of a perfect game in the finale, bowling a 298.

Liberal scored two Western Athletic Conference points in the Baker games, taking two of three from the Panthers but ending the day 2-9.

“We bowled about average, nothing spectacular,” Steiner said. “Tyler Killingsworth was our high bowler with a 646. We ran into a buzzsaw. I have to give them credit. They shot lights out. Sometimes that’s the way it happens. It doesn’t feel good when it happens in your own house, but you have to give them credit, they came in and bowled well.”

The varsity girls won one of the Baker matches but dropped the rest of the games to Great Bend to turn in a 1-10 performance.

Christie Proctor led the Lady Redskins with a 467 series.

The junior varsity Redskins won their head-to-head match with the Great Bend Panthers with an 8-3 performance.

Connor Wilson led the Redskin JV with a 573 average. Mitchell Irby had a 510 series.

Liberal won two out of three games, two out of three Baker matches and eeked out the overall pin tally by eight, 2,587-2,579.

The JV girls went 2-9, winning the first game of the day but dropping the next two and all the Baker matches.

“It’s been a rough season for the girls,” Steiner said.
