Hooker takes down Lady Dusters in OT, 52-49 PDF Print E-mail

The Hooker Lady Bulldogs did not lead most of the game, but they led when it was most important, winning in overtime 52-49 over the Beaver Lady Dusters.

Beaver led almost the entire first half, but with 6:40 left in the third quarter Hooker took the lead 26-25. By the 2:18 mark, the Lady Dusters had knotted the game at 29, and took the lead back to start the fourth (35-33).

Beaver again pulled ahead 39-37 with 3:21 left, but Hooker was able to tie the game at 42 with 50 seconds left.

Neither team could score before regulation ended, so the game headed to overtime.

Shania Miller got to the free throw line for the Lady Bulldogs in overtime, making 5 of 6. Miller scored nine of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Beaver was just 5 of 11 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Beaver was in control early in the game, taking a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Hooker had a14-9 advantage in the second quarter to cut the Lady Dusters lead to just two at half, 23-21.

Mariana Cervantes led the Lady Bulldogs offense with 16, including a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Miller, as mentioned earlier had 15, including two 3-pointers. Dana Jimenez scored 11, nine in the second half. Jiminez also hit two shots from beyond the arc, including one in overtime.

Shelby Brown was the leading scorer for the Lady Dusters with 12. Perry hit two threes, with one coming in overtime. Kaitlin Kemp added 10. Jacinda Balderrama scored 9, but struggle at the line making only 7 of 14 attempts. Shelby Perry and Cassie Howell each added 7.

Hooker (12-4) will face Hardesty tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the first round of the Texhoma Tournament.

Beaver (6-10) will travel to Buffalo tomorrow to take on the tournament host in first round action of their invitational.
