Tyrone 55, Balko 37
The Tyrone Bobcats used a big third quarter to pull away from the Balko Bison and earn a trip to the finals of the Fargo Tournament with a 53-37 win.
After trailing by two at halftime, Tyrone took control of the game with a 22-4 run in the third quarter.
“Nerlin Rivera came in off the bench and really gave us a shot in the arm, and helped us take back control of the game,” Bobcats coach Clay Witt said. “We put Nerlin up pressing the ball and looking to trap, and he got a lot of steals.”
Balko had hung right with the Bobcats in the first half, and helped their cause by aggressively driving the lane, and getting Tyrone in foul trouble. Payson Slater was called for two fouls in the first minute and had to sit most of the first half. Cole Wall also faced foul trouble and finished the game with four fouls.
Tyrone led 13-12 at the end of the first, but a 9-6 advantage for the Bison in the second put Tyrone behind at half.
Tyrone’s Austin Olivas was the game’s top scorer with 16. Bryce Potter had 12, and Ethan Reece added 8.
For Balko, Clay Casper scored 10.
No.13 Tyrone (12-0) advances to the finals where they will face tournament host No.4 Fargo (12-3).
“We’re exited about this game, and it’s a big reason we got in this tournament,” Witt said.
