The Turpin Cardinals bounced back from their opening round loss to defeat the Waynoka Railroaders 55-39 and earn a trip to the consolation game.

Critical to the Cardinals victory was a 30-14 advantage in the middle quarters set up by their defense.

“We picked up our pressure defense and caused turnovers, which turned into easy baskets,” Cardinals coach Gary Wallace said.

Turpin led 20-14 at the end of the first and 33-21 at half. The lead was 22 (50-28) by the end of the third.

Jordan Lujan led Turpin with 17 points. Freddie Baeza scored 11.

Turpin (5-7) will face Sharon-Mutual in the consolation matchup.
