MEADE – Lavona Jane Martin, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Meade District Hospital.

She was born April 8, 1943, to Clarence and Viola Bell (Selby) Samples in Leedy, Okla.

She married George L. Martin in Buffalo, Okla. He survives.

She graduated from Selman High School. She later attended Panhandle State University, Goodwell, Okla., receiving her bachelor of arts degree in education.

She taught school for several years, and she was a seamstress and interior decorator for many years and was co-owner of Martin Paint and Decorating.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, LWML, Thrivent, the Federated Junior League, and had served on the USD 226 Board of Education for eight years.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is alson survived by her children,  Gary Martin, Solomon,  Marc Martin, Ellsworth, Sherri Smith, Wichita, and John Martin, Baltimore; three sisters, Teresa Samples, Enid, Okla., Minnie Gilbert, Enid, and Larue Phillips, Roosevelt, Utah; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Sue Mauldin and Joyce Crow.

o Funeral services wer at 10 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn E. Spencer presiding.

Burial followed at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the St. John Lutheran Church Building Fund in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary.
