The Turpin Lady Cardinals hard luck season continued with a close loss Friday and a blowout Saturday.

Friday, the Lady Cardinals saw one slip through their hands with one bad quarter.

“We laid an egg in the third,” said Lady Cardinals head coach Chad Fox. “They played us in a tight man and we could not get into our offensive sets and turned the ball over.”

But even with their offensive struggles the Lady Cardinals still had a chance at the end trailing by only three with a minute left in the game.

“We pressed them and got some turnovers, but we were unable to convert,” said Fox. “They made some key free throws down the stretch. The game was closer than the final score.”

The Lady Cardinals started the game well and were able to jump out to an early 9-4 lead at the end of the first period. Fargo battled back in the second to knot the game at 15 at halftime. Turpin even outscored Fargo 13-11 in the fourth.

“Kyann Fuller was good on the boards,” said Fox. “She scored several points off of offensive rebounds.”

Raegan Alvarez led the Lady Cardinals with 11; Kyann Fuller added 9 including 6 second chance points, Peyton Robinson 7, and Shelby Hansen 6,

Saturday night Shattuck hit four threes in the first quarter and cruised to a 53-31 win over the Lady Cardinals.

“We had no legs,” said Fox. “It was a late night the night before (Fargo game) and Shattuck used a lot of players and we just ran out of gas.”

Shattuck controlled the boards with 15 offensive rebounds and forced 15 turnovers.

Shattuck led 18-7 after one and increased their lead to 35-12 at the break. Turpin played even with the Lady Indians the rest of the way, but could not cut into the large lead.

Dakota Moon totaled 9 points all from beyond the arc; Ragaen Alvarez also scored 9, Peyton Robinson 7, and Shelby Hansen 6.

The Lady Cardinals head into the break looking to regroup after a 1-8 start.
